Things to do before you move
Moving house is not an experience that most people forget - it is an exciting time, but one that has to be planned very carefully - with experts such as Fife Group.
Planning is definitely the key to a smooth transition to your new home, as everything should slot into place with a carefully worked out 'To do' list, prepared well in advance of your move.
Here, are a few steps to take before removal day:
- Carefully note on your calendar and diary the day you plan to move.
- Remember, once you've agreed the legal formalities of entry dates, it's often very difficult to change those arrangements. Ask what time keys will be available for your new property.
- Take note also, it's amazing how many people forget to organise, well in advance, time off work!
- Seek advice and a free, no-obligation quote from Fife Group, who will offer the very best guidance on what preparations you should make in your house.
- Packing - If you plan on doing this yourself, begin at least 2 weeks before your move. Label all boxes with the details of their contents and the room in which they are to be placed at your new home. Do not overload boxes as this may cause problems with handling. All fragile and valuable items should be properly protected with tissue/wrapping paper/bubble wrap etc. Fife Group have all of the appropriate packing materials for sale at our storage depots.
- Contact your telephone company to arrange a new number or transfer your number (if you're moving to the same code area).
- Inform the utility companies so that your meters are read on your removal day.
- Remember to inform friends, insurance companies, banks, credit card companies, the local authority DVLC and other organisations of your change of address.
- Get the Royal Mail to redirect your mail.
- Cancel newspaper & milk deliveries
- Pets-Try to make arrangements for relatives/friends to look after your pets on the day of the move as animals can become quite stressed as well.
- MOVING DAY - Our team leader will introduce himself and the rest of the team to you and ask you to show him round the property. Once the removal from your old home is complete the team leader will ask you to walk around the house with him to ensure all items have been loaded.
- At your new home all items will be unloaded and placed in the appropriate rooms and if included in the quotation, unpacked and unwrapped by the removal team.
- Once you are completely satisfied that the removal has been carried out to your total satisfaction you will be asked to endorse the team leaders work sheet. You will also be given a customer satisfaction survey including a stamped address envelope which we would be most grateful you take time to complete, once you have settled in to your new home. Fife Group endeavour to make the process of moving as stress free and efficient as possible every time.
